2019 WAC Summer Institute
The WAC Summer Institute, a three-day event, will be held for the first time from June 23 to June 26, 2019, at the University of Denver, for 30 participants.
The Institute’s primary goal will be to assist new and prospective leaders of WAC/WID or similar initiatives in the US and internationally at planning and developing their programs. The Institute will also support experienced directors who face new challenges or wish to expand, update, or revitalize their programs.
The Institute’s guiding theme will be building sustainable, high-impact WAC programs. The agenda will include workshops on understanding, planning, developing, and leading programs as well as small group meetings that provide mentoring and networking opportunities. Participants will also have opportunities to consult individually with Institute leaders. The specific issues to be addressed in the workshops and small group meetings will be based on participants’ interests and goals for attending as described on the application form. There will also be ample unscheduled time for participants to share their situations and aspirations informally.
Registration opens November 5th at 1:00 pm EST.
If you missed out registering for the Institute, please add your name to the waiting list. If slots open, you will be contacted according to the order on the list.
The $500 registration fee includes a Sunday evening reception; breakfast, lunch, and snack breaks on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; and an institute dinner on Monday. Optional social events will be offered at an additional cost.
Rooms are available in the residence halls at the cost of $167.89 plus 14.75% tax (this price covers all three nights). For those wishing to stay in a hotel or other accommodations, light rail connects campus and downtown.

Who Should Attend
We have designed the Institute primarily to help new and prospective leaders of WAC/WID and similar initiatives in the US and internationally plan, develop, and assess their programs. The Institute is also designed to support experienced program directors who face new challenges or wish to update, expand, or revitalize their current programs.
What Participants Will Gain
The Institute’s guiding theme is building sustainable, high-impact WAC programs. The agenda will include interactive workshops, as well as small group sessions that address issues specific to certain schools.
Mindful that in order to flourish each WAC program must fit comfortably in its own institutional context, we will help each participant develop ways to adapt general principals and strategies to the participant’s own campus.
Participants will be able to consult individually with Institute leaders and share their situations and aspirations with one another in formal and informal settings. All should expect to leave with clear goals and practical strategies for building or strengthening their own programs.
We are able to offer one graduate student scholarship. The graduate organization WAC-GO will handle the application details and will select the recipient. More information on the application process and criteria will be forthcoming on this site.
